If I had to pinpoint one area of my house that has been the most challenging to get organized it would have to be my kitchen.  For most people the kitchen is the central hub.  It is where a lot of the day to day action happens.  There is a lot that goes into a kitchen, therefore it makes sense that it would be one of the hardest areas in your house to keep organized.

Today I wanted to show you how I organize virtually every drawer in my kitchen.  Kitchen drawers can be a huge source of frustration for some people.  I know they once were for me.  That was mostly because I didn’t have any clue how to keep them organized.  It can also be tempting to quickly shove things in any drawer it will fit. You then tell yourself that you will find a real home for it later, but lets be honest, that never happens!

Before you know it you have every drawer crammed with who knows what and you constantly feel like you cannot find anything.

That is no way to live and will only cause you and your family TONS of stress and frustration.  I am here to say that there is a  better way!  My plan is to show you how I organize all of my kitchen drawers, in hopes that it will give you some ideas on what to do with yours.

STEPS TO TAKE

Step#1 – I would suggest you start by taking inventory of not only your space but everything in that space.  Namely your drawers.

Step #2 – Next you need to throw away or donate anything that you no longer need or use.  You never know what could be lurking in the deep corners of a cluttered kitchen drawer.  Yikes!

Step #3 – While you have everything tore apart, now would be a good time to wipe out the inside and outside of the drawers.  I also chose to add some decorative drawer liners, but that is not needed and is more for decoration than anything.

Step #4 – Make a plan for what you want to go where, and put it all back in a strategic and orderly fashion.  Remember not to over stuff your drawers, as this will make it harder to keep them organized in the future.

That’s pretty much it!

HERE ARE A FEW IDEAS

Below I am going to show you a pic of my kitchen drawers and give a small description what I keep in them.  I realize that not everyone’s needs or space is the same.  You may need to tailor some of the ideas to fit you and your family, but there may also be some ideas you never thought of too!

I thought I would start simple by showing this drawer that is right next to our oven. It holds oven mitts, pot holders, silicone pan trivets, and a spoon rest….

Next is a drawer that hold all of my mixing bowls, a couple strainers, and a measuring cup.

Next is a drawer that I use to keep all of my tin foil, plastic bags, and a small basket for chip clips…

The next drawer is located right next to my stove.  I use it for all of my spices, salt and pepper.  I bought it  here on amazon.  I love how it neatly displays all of my spices so I can easily see everything I have….

In this drawer I keep pretty much all my kitchen type tools except for my spatulas and spoons which are in a jar next to my stove…

Next is one of my favorite drawers.  Our doggy drawer!  This drawer has been a lifesaver! It holds almost everything dog related in one spot!  In here I keep dog treats, bones, grooming supplies, and a few random extras.  I used plastic organizers like the ones found here to organize this drawer….

In this drawer I keep all of my cutting boards, knives, and a couple small strainers. I was very intentional about this drawer because it is right above our trash can which makes it super easy to throw away food scraps when I am done.

This drawer is pretty straightforward! Silverware. I would highly recommend an organizer like this if you don’t already have one!

Last but not least is a drawer I use to hold our household binder, ours bills, some pens and pencils, my laptop and charger. I keep all of these things in a kitchen drawer because our kitchen is where most of the action happens!

I go through my mail everyday and throw away any junk mail. I also put all of my unpaid bills or anything else that may need my attention in the binder. Once a week I then go through the binder, pay bills, and take care of any unfinished business.

I keep my laptop in the drawer because my kitchen island seems to be where I do most of my work.

Well I guess that is it!

I hope this has given you some ideas or inspired you in some way to get your drawers organized?

Remember, half the battle is just getting started!

Please leave a comment and tell me what you think?  Do you have some neat ideas for drawers at your house?  Any tips or tricks that you want to add?

I would love to hear them!

Happy Organizing Friends!
